Culture at Its Best in Aspen

When so many celebrities and dignitaries from around the world spend their downtime in a small mountain playground, it is no wonder that the village would be full of culture and art. Aspen boasts a unique history and heritage that lives on today. The Aspen arts community has a strong place in the center of Aspen life even though this town is in the middle of what once was the Wild, Wild West.

Musical Festivals in Aspen
Things to do in Aspen include the Aspen Music Festival celebrates music every summer. Past participants have included famous names such as violinist Yo-Yo Ma. The festival dates from 1949 when the Aspen Chamber Symphony began playing the finest works from classical music.
 
The Wheeler Opera House is more than just a home for sopranos singing an aria from Italy. Sheryl Crow rocked the house down and Jerry Seinfeld had the entire audience erupting in laughter. Talented names such as these yearn to make an appearance at this vaunted hall of music.

No arts community would be complete without a museum of the arts. The Aspen Art Museum displays art from around the world. Gallerie Zuger features fine original art. They have a knowledgeable and dedicated staff that educates would-be buyers about their patronage. The Wheeler/Stallard Museum features the art in history that originated in a silver mining past of Aspen. Several small local art galleries offer a variety of works available for all kinds of tastes in art.
 
The Aspen Filmfest
Over 30,000 guests and participants flock to Aspen's mountain community in late September every year. The Filmfest began in 1979 as a celebration of the arts of filmmaking. Visitors will see some of the finest examples of script and cinema that is unique in its form of art.
 
It is a rare thing to find a small western town that has such a modern flair of interest in the cultural and performing arts. Aspen truly stands out from other western towns. Art lovers can enjoy the beauty of all that is modern in art and culture or reach back to the past to explore what was once posh and in style.
